Tory Lanez kicks off 2017 with not one, but two new projects each showcasing his versatility and raw style. Fans are sure to love both of these new mixtapes!
2017 is here and by the looks of it, Tory Lanez is ready to take it over with this fourth installment of his Chixtape series. Admittedly, I’ve never been a big fan of Tory Lanez mostly because of his constant use of samples, but Chixtape 4 just works for me. Every single sample fits and is perfectly relative to today’s times. Tory Lanez serenades us over samples of some of our favorite early 2000s hits such as Pretty Ricky’s “Grind On Me,” Bobbie Valentiono’s “Slow Down,” and Aaliyah’s “I Don’t Wanna Be Alone.” The leading track that is being spread across social media is “Proud Family,” Lanez’ spin on The Proud Family theme song. Chixtape 4 only has two features, one from Cash Money songbird Jacquees on “Slow Grind,” and friend of Lanez, Nyce on “What’s Luv.”Each song tells a different story, yet are all pulled together and relevant to dating life in this day and age. The New Toronto 2
On The New Toronto 2, Lanez moves away from singing (just a tad) in order to give us a feel for his rap abilities. Fans are given original music (read as: no samples) on this tape and it has me wondering why doesn’t he have more. Lanez is a superb artist in many ways and The New Toronto 2 does not disappoint in showcasing his talent. Maintaining focus on him, A$AP Ferg and Rick Ross are the only featured artists. “Bal Harbour” featuring A$AP Ferg is a standout hit and is something nice to hear in this troubled time of hip-hop.
