It’s been a nice week of new music to vibe out to. Young Dolph drops his beefy mixtape, and Big Sean gets us thinking with I Decided. Trap rap trio Migos finally gives us Culture, while Kehlani and Syd mellows us out with their respective takes on R&B. Also, Missy Elliott surprises us with a new single that’s too good to pass up. Listen to all of this new music available this week!
Young Dolph – Gelato
Disclaimer: I’ve never been much of a Dolph fan. This mixtape is a start to turning my ear to the Southern rapper, though. With features from Lil Yachty, Migos, and Wiz Khalifa, the mixtape definitely has a few bangers but most others are hit or miss with me. “Run It Up,” “On The River,” and “Special” all keep a nice tune and are great to listen to when you’re getting ready to run up a bag (or however the youngins say). His diss to Yo Gotti “Play Wit Yo Bitch” just might start a war, but fans will eat it up. Take a listen and decide for yourself.
P.S. This cover gives me all sorts of motivation to get the money, but I digress.
Syd – Fin
If you’re missing that old school R&B smoothness and tone, look no further! Syd, formerly of the group The Internet, and a known associate of Odd Future dropped off her debut solo album Fin, and it is DOOOPPPPEEEE! Her voice is all kinds of soft tones and conveys so much emotion with her lyrics. Completely reminiscent of Aaliyah and the R&B of late 90s and early 2000s. Tracks like “Know,” “Drown In It,” and “Over” featuring 6LACK are just a few standouts but overall the album is a hit. Be sure to support her and check out all of her jams!
Big Sean – I Decided
I don’t know why people sleep on Big Sean, but this man is an absolute genius and no one can tell me otherwise. You can tell by the album cover Sean has some stuff on his mind and he just wants to talk about it. With “Bounce Back” as the leading single and followed by the club banger “Moves,” Sean knows what he’s doing to get people listening and talking. He pays tribute to his mom on “Inspire Me” and even gives us a little taste of his singing on a few tracks. Migos, Jeremih, Eminem, The Dream are a few of the big features on the album. Sean reaches back to his home state with features from The Flint Chozen and Starrah on “Bigger Than Me” and also offers a short track with his boo/Twenty88 group member Jhene Aiko on “Same Time.” Listen, buy and download I Decided and getcho life!
Kehlani – SweetSexySavage
Kehlani was off the map for a little while due to personal issues, but homegirl is back and she’s better! Steady playing off of her rough, yet edgy appeal, her music is a nice balance of good music and cutthroat wordplay. Kehlani bares a lot of emotion in this album and rightfully so with all she’s been through in the months leading up to this album. “CRZY,” the leading single, is one for the ladies and it’s quite the song. Fans can hear much of her inspiration in this album is from old school artists in songs like “In My Feelings.” “Do U Dirty,” and “Everything Is Yours” show Kehlani’s versatility to bring you up and have you down, but in a good way. Your girl has no features! A risky move for such a young artist, but she’s holding her own. Support the album on all digital platforms and in stores.
Migos – Culture
Everybody knows I’m a sucka for Migos, and their new album Culture has only made our bond stronger. Beside’s giving ladies a new club anthem “Bad & Boujee,” Culture has plenty of hits on deck. Fans can expect a lot of production on the album from Atlanta faves Metro Boomin and Zaythoven. Features include 2 Chainz, Travis Scott and of course Gucci Mane on the track “Slippery.” Other tracks like “T-Shirt,” “Kelly Price,” and “Big on Big” keep the traptastic feel going. With Migos’ new found mainstream fame thanks to actor Donald Glover, I’m willing to bet this album is bound to go platinum. Thank you Offset, Quavo, and Takeoff for this jewel! Listen, buy, and download the album on your respective digital platforms including Apple Music, iTunes, etc.
